This is not a summary of the documents in the archive. It is an extraction of the moves those documents make — the repeatable operations you can run on a problem, a belief, or a bad afternoon.

Two notes on honesty, since the corpus insists on it. First — the last two rows are other authors' work sitting in the collection, not yours; their methods are usable regardless of whether their conclusions hold. Second — several claims across this corpus (temporal density as a physical dimension, quantum origins of language, symbolic resonance fields) are speculative, and say so. This guide takes their structure as thinking tools. It does not assert their physics.

Part I

Diagnostic moves

Run these before you start reasoning. Most bad thinking is a well-executed argument about a badly-posed question.

Ontology triage

Ontology distinguishes objects (chairs, stones), relations (distance, causation, time), and processes (growth, becoming).Appendix A1

Before analysing anything, ask which of the three it is. Most confusion is a category error: treating a relation or a process as if it were an object.

The corpus's worked example is time. "I don't have time," "I wasted time," "I need more time" — all treat time as a possessible object. It is not. It is the condition under which possession itself becomes possible. Once you make that error, time becomes an enemy you race and lose to. You cannot outrun the condition of your own existence.

The moveName the noun at the centre of your problem. Object, relation, or process? If you've been treating a relation like an object, most of your difficulty will dissolve rather than resolve.

Cases the corpus applies this to: the self (process, not object), memory (reconstruction, not retrieval), freedom (capacity, not substance), truth (layered — see move 03).

Separate epistemic access from ontological status

We confuse epistemic access (how we know something) with ontological status (what something is).Chapter 3

How you come to know a thing and what the thing is are different questions. Collapsing them produces two symmetric errors: "I can't measure it, so it isn't real," and "I experience it vividly, so it is exactly as it appears."

Applied to memory: the past is fixed in fact but fluid in meaning. Nothing you learn changes what happened; everything you learn can change what it meant. Healing edits history without changing the facts.

Layer the truth claim

Truth has three layers, and only the first is stable:

  • Factual — what occurred. Time does not undo occurrence.
  • Interpretive — what it meant.
  • Existential — what it means for how one ought to live.

Layers two and three change as the knower changes. Time refines truth not by altering reality, but by altering the interpreter.

The moveWhen you disagree with someone, identify which layer the disagreement lives on. Layer-one disputes are settled by evidence. The other two are not — and treating them as though they were is how arguments become unwinnable.
Truth that does not mature becomes dogma. Truth that matures becomes wisdom.

Part II

Temporal moves

The corpus's home ground: what changes in your reasoning once time stops being a container and starts being a structure.

Arrow, loop, spiral

Two causal shapes: linear (A → B → C) and recursive (A → B → A). Habits are recursive systems. Trauma is recursive memory. Culture is recursive reinforcement. Skill is also recursive — the loop is not the enemy.

The corpus formalises the habit loop as S_t → A_t → R_t → S_t+1 (stimulus → action → reinforcement → next stimulus) and defines the intervention precisely: insert awareness α into the chain, giving S_t → α → A_t' → R_t'. Repetition without awareness is a stable recursive attractor in behavioural state-space.

The moveFor any recurring outcome you dislike, do not attack the outcome. Locate the loop, then find the smallest point where α can be inserted. When a pattern becomes visible, it becomes optional. This does not mean it becomes easy to change. It means it becomes possible.

The loop that gains awareness becomes a spiral: it still circles, but it rises.

The difference between fate and character is attention.

Thicken the present

The present is not a razor's edge. It has depth — William James's specious present, Husserl's retention and protention. When you listen to a melody, you do not hear isolated notes.

Practically: urgency compresses time, and compressed time collapses action into reflex. This is why pressure undermines freedom. Reasons need duration to matter, because interpretation takes time.

The moveWhen a decision feels forced, the first intervention is not to decide better — it is to widen the interval. Deliberately slow one decision per week that does not need to be fast. You are not being indecisive; you are restoring the conditions under which choosing is possible at all.
Freedom is not the lightning strike. Freedom is the clearing in the sky that lets the strike be seen.

Modal hygiene

Anxiety and regret are both modal reasoning — comparing the actual world against possible worlds. This is not a malfunction. It is how planning works.

The failure mode is specific: mistaking imagined time for lived time. Anxiety rents rooms in buildings not yet constructed; regret renovates houses that no longer stand. The present becomes thin when stretched between two unrealities.

The moveDon't argue with the content of the imagined world. Re-label it: this is a possible world, not the actual one. Then name one action available in the actual one, and do that first. Presence here is not a spiritual posture — it is an epistemic correction, returning attention to the only time in which agency exists.

Density before choice

Whatever you make of the physics, this is a usable decision procedure. Before choosing, deliberately hold multiple futures open and inspect them rather than collapsing to the first plausible one. The corpus calls the degree to which alternatives remain live temporal density — near zero for a boulder rolling downhill, nonzero for a deliberating mind.

The moveList three genuinely available futures before selecting one. Not two — two invites false dilemma. Not ten — that is paralysis wearing rigour's coat.

Responsibility runs both directions

Responsibility is not punctual. It extends.

  • Backward — you inherit the consequences of past selves' actions. This can feel unfair, but fairness is not the relevant category — continuity is. Responsibility here is not blame; it is authorship of the conditions you now inhabit.
  • Forwardyou are the ancestor of your future self. The habits you keep, the narratives you repeat, the environments you tolerate: that is the inheritance you are writing.
The moveFor any decision, ask what conditions it creates, not just what it achieves. Ethics is less about isolated choices than the kind of temporal world your choices build.

Part III

Rigour moves

How the corpus pressure-tests its own arguments — and how to borrow the apparatus.

The self-undermining test

If determinism is philosophically complete, then your belief in determinism is itself determined … But a predetermined conclusion is not, in any interesting sense, an argument. It is noise that sounds like an argument.Chapter 7 — The Cage and the Key
The moveApply any strong general claim to the person making it, including yourself. Does it survive? Claims that dissolve their own justification — total scepticism, total relativism, total determinism about belief — have a structural crack regardless of how good the supporting evidence looks. This is a logical objection, not a psychological one, which is why it holds.

Note what the corpus does not do next: it doesn't declare victory. It grants that determinism gets absolutely right everything about physical causation, and calls the cage very good. The bars are made of physics. Steelman first, then find the crack.

Refuse the false dilemma; look for the included third

Repeatedly, the method is to show a forced binary was never exhaustive:

  • Fixed essence or total flux → the self is a pattern of meaning that carries itself forward by interpretation.
  • Control time or escape it → inhabit it.
  • Determinism or free will → two descriptions of the same thing, seen from different vantage points.

The third-party cosmology paper names this the included third: a category that lets oppositions complement rather than exclude each other.

The moveWhen handed an either/or, first ask what a third option would have to look like. Often the binary is an artefact of the level of description, and changing levels dissolves it.

The conceivability probe

Any purely functional description of the brain leaves it conceptually open that the described system is a philosophical zombie … If that possibility is coherent, then no physical description alone can close the explanatory gap.Chapter 9 — What Consciousness Is For
The moveTo test whether an explanation is complete, ask whether you can coherently describe a system that satisfies every clause of it and still lacks the thing being explained. If you can, the explanation has a gap — you've described correlates, not the phenomenon.

Use with care: conceivability is contested as a guide to possibility. It reliably locates where an explanation is thin. It does not by itself prove what fills the gap.

Add a dimension when your description produces infinities

From the physics papers: general relativity predicts geodesic incompleteness at singularities. Rather than accepting an infinity as physical, the papers treat it as a symptom — an indicator of insufficient dimensional description. Add a coordinate, and the interval that appeared to diverge instead rotates into the new direction and stays finite. Singularities become projection artifacts of dimensional reduction.

The moveWhen your model produces an absurdity — infinite cost, undefined behaviour, an irresolvable contradiction — treat it first as evidence that a variable is missing, not as a discovery about the world.

Three constraints the papers impose on themselves when doing this, and you should too:

  • Conserve. E_total = E_spatial + E_temporal-density = constant. Nothing appears from nowhere; the apparent infinity is a redistribution. If your new dimension creates free resources, you've hidden the cost rather than found it.
  • Recover the known limit. The construction preserves standard relativistic behavior in weak-field regimes. A better model must reproduce the old model everywhere the old model worked.
  • State what you did not do. No new dynamics or experimental predictions are introduced. The contribution lies in geometric reinterpretation. Explicitly bounding a claim is not weakness; it is what makes the claim assessable.

Define by negative space

The Dog's essay establishes what loyalty is by first ruling out what it resembles:

  • not obedience — that's behaviour matched to instruction; a locked door is obedient
  • not attachment — attachment says stay, loyalty says I will go where you go
  • not unconditional supportloyalty that cannot include honest disagreement is not loyalty at all — it is sycophancy wearing loyalty's coat

Only then: loyalty is a sustained orientation, chosen and re-chosen.

The moveFor any concept doing heavy lifting in your argument, list its three nearest neighbours and say precisely how it differs from each. The negative space around a concept is often more revealing than the concept itself.

The corollary matters for how you take advice: the most useful people in your thinking are the ones who can disagree with you without the relationship being at stake. Sycophancy is the failure mode of counsel, and it is most dangerous around whoever holds the most power in the room.

Decompose to primitives, then recompose

The symbolic-physics paper's structural method — independent of whether its linguistics holds — is worth stealing: define a small closed set of irreducible fields (it uses seven: Pulse, Fold, Relationship, Tension, Wave, Stillness, Spark), generate the next tier by pairwise combination, and let higher structures emerge by recursion.

The moveWhen a domain feels like an unmanageable list of special cases, hunt for the small generating set. Then check the generated combinations against reality — the ones that should exist but don't are where the real learning is.

Part IV

Adversarial moves

The Security+ objectives on this machine encode a discipline the philosophical texts lack: assuming someone is actively working against you. The five domains map cleanly onto general reasoning.

2.1

Threat actors and motivations

Never analyse an adverse outcome without asking who benefits, and what capability do they have. Motivation and resource level change which explanations are plausible.

2.2

Vectors and attack surface

Enumerate every place your plan touches the world. The surface is always larger than the interface you designed.

Indicators

Decide in advance what observations would tell you things are going wrong. Criteria chosen after the fact are chosen to fit.

5.2

Mitigation, not elimination

Risk is managed to a residual level, never zeroed. A plan claiming zero residual risk is a plan that hasn't been examined.

Change management

Most failures arrive not from attack but from unreviewed change. Ask what a change invalidates, not only what it improves.

Resilience

Assume the failure has already happened and ask how you would recover. This is the adversarial mirror of move 12 — instead of adding a dimension to dissolve an infinity, you add a failure to test a structure.

Part V

The four-move stress test

The single most portable thing in the corpus. Every chapter of It's Still About Time ends with the same four-part pass, applied to its own argument.

Nuances

Where does this hold only partially? What is the axis of variation?

"Loops can be adaptive (circadian rhythms) or maladaptive (addiction); context determines value."

Edge case

Name the case that strains it hardest. Not one that breaks it trivially — one that genuinely tests it.

"In evolutionary biology, feedback loops enable adaptation; in psychology they can trap."

Implication

What follows if it's true, in a domain you weren't thinking about?

"Social loops influence individual agency; breaking them requires collective awareness."

Related consideration

What adjacent field already knows something about this?

"In economics, feedback loops drive markets."

Four passes, deliberately outward-facing. It is a cheap, mechanical way to stop a conclusion from being locally right and globally naive.

Part VI

The disciplines behind the moves

Moves are useless without the conditions that let you run them.

Observe before you intervene

From the memoir: watching the cat complete a stimulus without hesitation, then noticing his own sequence differed — withdraw, store, amplify later, discharge privately. The conclusion is the whole method in three lines:

If instinct is patterned, it can be observed. Observation creates distance. Distance creates leverage.S.W.I.M. — Chapter 2, Reflex

Recognition doesn't erase the reflex. It interrupts inevitability. That is enough to work with.

Reason as a choir, not a monologue

The mythic sections stage Thomas as multiple selves — past, present, future — arguing. The physics paper treats a black hole interior and a decision point as the same question, and the preface admits both turned out to be the same question. Use plural voices on one problem: the version of you who has to live with this in ten years, the version who has already failed at it, the version who has to defend it publicly. Where they disagree is where the thinking isn't finished.

Let some things take eight days

Thomas the disciple waited eight days for evidence, and the text refuses to call that faithlessness. Doubt is the mind's way of asking for presence. Demanding verification is legitimate. And yet: to live well in time is to act before all the evidence is in. Both are true, and the resolution is not a compromise — it is knowing which situation you're in. Reversible and cheap? Act early. Irreversible and expensive? Wait for the touch.

What is grasped quickly is rarely grasped fully.

Attention is the scarce resource, not time

The corpus's closing claim: Time does not give meaning. Attention gives time meaning. Every move in this guide costs attention, and none of them cost time you could have spent otherwise. That is the actual constraint to budget against.

Part VII

The fourteen-day rotation

Fourteen moves, fourteen days. One per day, in order — the diagnostic ones first, because they change what the later ones are pointed at.

This is the corpus's own verdict on reading without practice, and the reason this section exists. The exercises above are marked by provenance: Kairos ones are lifted verbatim from the practices at the end of each chapter; Drill ones were written for this guide, for the moves the books never turned into a practice.

  • Who benefits, and what can they actually do?
  • What's the full surface, not the intended interface?
  • What would tell me I'm wrong — decided now, not later?
  • What's the residual risk I'm accepting?

Then, always

  • Nuances.
  • Edge case.
  • Implication.
  • Related consideration.

And, as practice

  • Slow one decision on purpose.
  • Name one loop you walked this week.
  • Do the present action before the future worry.
  • Run the fourteen-day rotation — one move per day, logged.
